I’ve spent my life communicating unexpected connections.
I started out my career on a mission to inform the world of the artistic significance of female characters in seventeenth-century Spanish theater. I even got a PhD in it. It was an exercise in taking something seemingly complex (seventeenth-century verse in another language) and conveying the interesting and unexpected aspects of it in a simple way that people could follow–and believe. Not so different from the work I’ve done as a language teacher, helping others navigate an unfamiliar system and make their thoughts clear to others, or as a marketer, translating product features into the beneficial experience that target customers need and want to improve their lives. That’s a decade of communications experience to help you put your best words forward.
I’m a hard worker. But not an inhospitable hermit.
Did I spend 12 days holed up in my apartment writing 83 pages on early modern Spanish literature to qualify for my doctorate? Yes. But don’t let the nerdish background fool you. They’re not just words on a page to me–they’re a living interaction. I’m comfortable presenting to large audiences, leading workshops, and working one-on-one to refine presentation skills. I want to meet your people and understand what you do. And I will make sure you have messages with impact that everyone knows how to articulate.
Plus, I’m me.
There was a time in my life when I thought I needed to wear a corduroy blazer with elbow patches as I quoted Judith Butler in roundtable discussions. Then there was a time in my life when I thought I needed to live in a million-dollar craftsman and give book readings of my bestselling YA novel while swathed in polka-dotted Kate Spade dress shorts. More and more, though, I realize that I just want to be me.
Lettered, but not fancy.
